The Legend of Zelda
Triforce of Courage Bearer/Princess of Hyrule

Princess Zelda first apperared in The Legend of Zelda in 1986. All the Zelda games have been named after Princess Zelda despite the fact that Link is the main, playable character.

Princess Zelda is quite often known for being the bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom. She sometimes also has some sort of magical power although it is possible she gains it from her Triforce.

Zelda is usually captured and must be rescued, usually, from Ganondorf. At times, she plays more crucial roles. For example, in Ocarina of Time, she transforms into a Sheikah named Sheik in order to evade Ganondorf and assist Link.

Alter EgosEdit

Zelda has twice appeared as another person in the Zelda series.

Sheik was allegedly the only survivor of the Sheikah tribe in Ocarina of Time. He appeared to Link multiple times in the game to teach him various important songs. At the end of the game, in the Temple of Time, he reveals himself to truly be Zelda. Zelda disguised herself as Sheik during Link's seven-year slumber in order to evade Ganondorf.

In the Wind Waker, Tetra is a young pirate about the age of Link who leads her late mother's group of pirates. Until the middle of the game, she is unaware of her true identity despite the fact she wears a piece of the Triforce of Wisdom that her mother gave her. She learns of her true identity in Hyrule Castle following a scuffle with Ganondorf, whose Triforce of Power recognizes her piece of the Triforce of Wisdom.

  • The inspiration for Zelda's name came from author F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife, Zelda Fitzgerald.
