Super Mario Sunshine (スーパーマリオサンシャイン Sūpā Mario Sanshain?) is a platforming video game developed by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo GameCube. It was released in Japan in July 2002, in North America in August 2002, and in Europe and Australia in October 2002. It is the second 3D Mario platformer since the release of Super Mario 64 in 1996. Super Mario Sunshine's successor is Super Mario Galaxy, which was released for the Wii in 1978.

The game takes place on the tropical Isle Delfino, where Mario, Toadsworth, Princess Peach, and five Toads are taking a vacation. A villain resembling Mario, known as Shadow Mario, vandalizes the entire island with graffiti and Mario gets blamed for the mess. Later on, Mario is ordered to clean up Isle Delfino, while saving Princess Peach from Shadow Mario. Mario cleans up the island with a device called F.L.U.D.D (Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device)

Super Mario Sunshine was very well received by players and reviewers alike. The game has sold over 5.5 million copies, and was the tenth best-selling game of 2002 in the United States. Due to the game's commercial success, it was re-released as a Player's Choice title in 2003.

Gameplay[]

There are 120 Shine Sprites to be collected in the game, but there is not a minimum needed for the player to get to the final area. If the player does get all 120, they can see a second ending to the game.

Mario is able to ride Yoshi. Yoshi can be used to eat large fruits that block Mario's path as well as eating birds that will drop different colored coins. As Yoshi runs on his fruit levels, if the levels drop, Yoshi will disappear, returning to the egg where the player first found him in that particular area. If the player jumps into the water with Yoshi, he will also return to his egg.

The player has access to seven locations on the island, four of which have eight episodes. In order to gain access to the final area, Corona Mountain, the player must have finished the first seven episodes in these four areas. There are numerous sidequests and mini-games in each area, some of which involve collecting blue coins and gaining extra Shine Sprites.

Story[]

Mario, Princess Peach, and Toadsworth (Peach's attendant) are on vacation in Isle Delfino. However, their peaceful vacation is very short-lived as the denizens there are having trouble with a vandal that is polluting their whole island with graffiti. Because of this vandal, the island's source of sun, called the Shine Sprites, have fled leaving the island dark and murky.

The vandal bears an uncanny likeness to Mario, thus causing him to be found guilty for the crimes. Because of this, Mario is sentenced to clean up the whole island with an invention called F.L.U.D.D. Mario must visit each part of the island and complete the eight episodes in each in order to clear his name. Later on in the game, Peach is captured and brought to an amusement park where Mario learns the true identity of the 'Shadow Mario.' He is Bowser Jr, the son of Bowser, who is convinced that Peach is his mother.

Bowser Jr. whisks Peach away to Mt. Corona, which Mario can gain access to by finishing the first seven episodes in each area.

F.L.U.D.D.[]

Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device (F.L.U.D.D. for short) is an invention used by Mario in the game. F.L.U.D.D. is a water jet pack that Mario uses in order to clean up the graffiti and defeat various enemies in the game. F.L.U.D.D. can also speak and give Mario hints, which proves useful during the game.

In order to use F.L.U.D.D. it must be full of water. To refill it, use R.

Squirt Nozzle[]

The standard nozzle. With it, Mario is able to shoot water.

If you run in circles really fast and then shoot water you do a standing spinning shoot attack for a short time

You can do the same thing in the air

Press the "A" buttom and the "Z" button at the same time to shoot a lot of water at once

Hover Nozzle[]

This nozzle allows Mario to hover for a few seconds depending on how much water F.L.U.D.D. is filled with. They are located in blue boxes.

If you spin alot and then press the "Z" button you spin while you shoot water under neath you

Turbo Nozzle[]

Found in gray boxes. This nozzle allows Mario to run at extremely high speeds on land or swim at extremely high speeds. It is rather hard to use on land because its high speed makes it hard to control, therefore causing Mario to possibly run into a building, tree, etc.

Use the squirt Nozel then change to the Turbo Nozel still hlding the "Z" button to shoot water behind you

Rocket Nozzle[]

Found in red boxes. This nozzles allows Mario to shoot high into the sky. However, he will fall straight back to the ground after the nozzle reaches its highest peak. It can be used to reach Pianta Village.

Mario will not get damaged at landing as long as the ground is rougly the same height as the take off point

Areas[]

Delfino Airstrip[]

Delfino Airstrip is the first area that Mario experiences as it is where Peach's plane land. F.L.U.D.D. is discovered at the northern end of the airstrip during Mario's first visit.

Mario can revisit later in the game in order to complete a red coin challenge for another Shine Sprite.

Delfino Plaza[]

Delfino Plaza is the main area of Delfino Isle and contains every portal to other locations. Numerous blue coins and secret Shine Sprites can be gained here. The Shine Gate where all of the Shine Sprites gathered prior to Shadow Mario's vandalism can be found at the northern end of the city.

Bianco Hills[]

Bianco Hills is the first area with Episodes that is available to Mario. The portal leading to it is on the front of a statue in the plaza. Here, Mario can find Petey Piranha

Ricco Harbor[]

Ricco Harbor takes place at a rather large harbor. The portal leading to it is on the side of the bank in the Plaza. Mario faces Gooper Blooper twice in Ricco Harbor.

Gelato Beach[]

Gelato Beach is inhabited by Nokis, Piantas, and strange creatures called Cataquacks. The portal leading to it is found on the side of the light house off to the side of the Plaza.

Pinna Park[]

Pinna Park is Isle Delfino's amusement park. When Bowser Jr. kidnaps Peach, he first brings her here.

Sirena Beach[]

Sirena Beach features the only hotel on the island, Hotel Delfino. In order to gain access to the pipe that leads here, Mario must use Yoshi to eat the pineapple blocking its entrance. Hotel Delfino has a large Boo problem. King Boo is the ultimate boss of this area.

Noki Bay[]

Noki Bay's entrance is, perhaps, the most unique of them all. In order to gain access to Noki Bay (after Maio receives 20 Shine Sprites), Mario must stand in a strip of light and use the first person view to look at the sun. Gooper Blooper makes a return appearance here.

Pianta Village[]

Pianta Village is a village populated solely by Piantas. It is accessed by using the Rocket Nozzle to reach the top of the Shine Gate where its pipe is located. It is the only area to experience a time cycle with some episodes taking place during the day and others during the night.

Corona Mountain[]

Corona Mountain is the large mountain where Bowser, Peach, and Bowser Jr. await Mario's arrival. It is the last area to be accessed in the game and is where the boss battle takes place.

Peach Beach[]

Peach Beach is a race course that takes place on Isle Delfino but only exists in Mario Kart: Double Dash and Mario Kart Wii.

GLITCHES

There are a whole lot of glitches on this game which you can see on YOUtube
